The Difference Between a Hand Wheat Grinder and an Electric Grain Mill

There are many reasons as to why people have their preferences on choosing one or another. Before you get ready to purchase either an electric grain mill or a hand wheat grinder, you should ask yourself the following questions:

  1. What will I be using in the grinder to grind up?
  2. Will I use this on a regular basis or every once in a while?
  3. Will noise of excessive dust be a problem?
  4. Should I purchase one that requires me to mount it on the counter?

The above are all questions that you should take into consideration before you make a purchase.

Grinders can be used for grinding a number of different food items. Most people use them for the purpose of grinding nuts and grains. Flax seed is known to be one of the most popular foods to be grinded in a mill because it has a number of different nutritious elements in it. It is used in vitamins and in a number of different foods. For the most part, grains that are oily are broken down by grinders.

Another reason why grinders are good to use is because they don’t only just grind a number of different grains, but they can make them very fine; basically into a powder. These grinders are often used for the purpose of grinding ingredients for cereal; they really come in hand for this very reason. The electric grinders do not have the ability to crack the grains. There are a total of about 3-4 setting that can be used on electric mills. These settings are used to set how course you want your grains to be.

The majority of electric grinders are able to grind at speeds that are as high as 85 lbs. per hour. This grinding speed is considered to be a fairly fast speed for grinding. When using a hand grinder, it can take a person anywhere from 25 to 75 minutes to make about 10 cups of grain.

This is considered to be very slow compared to the electric grinding method. Hand grinders are basically purchased by people because of the quality of grinding they get out of it; not for speed.
